Theology of work, witness at the workplace - Tim Vickers

Workshop description soon...

About Tim

When I graduated I started work in business at the age of 21 right in the middle of the West End of London. I felt pressure from my parents to do well in my job, I felt pressure from the church to pay for Christian ministry, I felt pressure from my work to be money orientated, I felt pressure from my colleagues to ‘fit in’, and I had pressure from my girlfriend to settle down. In the middle of all these pressures I found no relief, and I found very little by way of Christian support and teaching to help me understand if this thing (work) which was taking up so much of my life had any long term significance to Jesus or relevance to the Kingdom of God.

You can see a theme between my lostness then and my ministry now. By God’s grace I ended up seeing more clearly how my faith integrated into the places and relationships of my work. And then I started the Lord opened the way for be to start equipping other young graduates for life in the workplace.

So in 1995 after 9 years in business I went to study the Bible, and from 1997 until now I have worked with students and young graduates helping them to see their working lives as a life of serving Jesus and making Him known to those we spend our lives with. I have been part of the IFES European and Eurasia Regional Teams for 11 years. This work is a pretty consuming passion for me.

Besides work, I have a beautiful wife and three lovely children (11,10 & 6), a dog (9) and I live on a little island just of the edge of Europe (the UK). I love to climb mountains, windsurf and sail anything that goes fast on the water.
